Redwings Horse Sanctuary lost an inspiring teacher in 2004, Baby. He worked with volunteers at a special facility that houses a few of the Redwings horses. At 1800 pounds, Baby commanded attention, yet was a gentle soul. He was quite old for a Clydesdale when he passed at 23 years. In the course of his diagnosis and treatment, Baby needed immediate funds when he went to Davis and underwent costly diagnostic procedures. The investigation unfortunately found that Baby had inoperable cancer. He returned home and lived many more months and finished his life in the comfort of his home, with the volunteers that loved him so much.
Baby’s supporters helped initiate Baby’s Health Fund. It was started for Baby, but continues on as Baby’s Memorial Health Fund as a fund for people who want to donate directly to the unusual medical needs of the Redwings horses. Redwings Horse Sanctuary has sufficient funding for every-day horse care and much of the medical care of the horses. Baby’s Memorial Health Fund is different; it is a restricted donation and will go directly to a horse’s medical care. This fund will be used for emergency surgeries, diagnostic procedures on horses that have good prognosises, good health, and good spirits. It will be used to fund major medical needs at the ranch that directly improve the health of the horses.
Medicine is never perfect and is almost always expensive. There are never any guarantees that veterinary care will cure all, but it is so very helpful to have available cash to perform diagnostics, surgery or urgent care.
It’s easy to donate. When you send a donation check to Redwings, please include “Baby’s Memorial Health Fund” on the memo line. You can also donate safely online here. Please be sure to enter “Baby’s Memorial Health Fund” in the Network for Good designation field.
Thank you for helping to keep Baby’s memory alive by helping Redwings’ horses today.
