JUNIOR

Junior is a dapple gray Percheron gelding and the largest draft horse at Redwings. He was originally sold at auction to a man who uses big draft horses for hay rides. Unfortunately, Junior wasn’t cut out for his new job, trying to run away rather than pull a wagon. After one year, the man finally gave up on Junior and planned to send him back to the auction—where a horse with alleged behavioral problems like Junior would surely have been sold for slaughter. Redwings heard about Junior and was able to purchase him at the auction before it became too late.

Redwings’ Humane Equine Trainers spent their first 1.5 hours with Junior just attempting to approach him without causing him to flee. After many hours of patient training, Junior began to trust people again. He is now one of Redwings’ friendliest residents, delighting many volunteers and staff members with his loving personality and huggable nature.
