Lacey and Molly C

Lacey

Lacey at Redwings

She is a beautiful Overo Paint, but her one fault is that she had probably grown too old. No longer useful, her owner sent her to the feedlot to be shipped to Canada for slaughter. We don’t know her background. She could have been a ranch horse for a cattle company or someone’s private riding horse. She is used to being around people and very sweet. But no longer wanted.

While at the feedlot, she started dropping weight. Between the time she was dropped off and the time she was rescued she lost between 200-300 pounds. By the time she arrived at Redwings, she had a runny nose and eyes, was extremely tired from the long 12-hour trip and very hungry. She was fed, given antibiotics and put into quarantine where she remained for three weeks. During that time she was visited by the vet and given a complete examination including bloodwork.

It was decided that with her coloring, her name should be Lacey! And so she will be known the rest of her life which will be spent enjoying the other horses and visitors to Redwings.

Molly C at the Feedlot

At the same feedlot, was a bay mare. Like Lacey, she had been scheduled to load onto a truck headed for Canada. She also was sick by the time she reached Redwings. Being sick is common for horses at a feed lot headed to slaughter. Other than a history of hoof problems showing in her hoof wall growth, we no nothing about her except she suffered long time neglect. She has been named Molly C.

Fortunately, Redwings found out about these beautiful mares and was able to rescue them. They will spend the rest of their lives being cared for and loved.
