REDWINGS HORSE SANCTUARY

Up until 1993, our organization was known as the California Horse Adoption and Protection Society, or C.H.A.P.S. Once we had changed our policy to one of permanent sanctuary rather than adoption, we renamed the corporation Horse Power Sanctuaries.
Around that time, an organization known as Redwings Horse Sanctuary in the United Kingdom wanted to broaden their efforts to educate the public of the plight of equines by helping another horse sanctuary, and they chose us. Redwings UK brought Horse Power Sanctuaries critical funding, and taught us how to run a sponsorship program, run a newsletter production, and helped us create a more efficient organization to educate the public on equine issues.
In honor of the enormous help Redwings Horse Sanctuary in the United Kingdom gave to us, we decided to take on their name as our public name. We are still separate organizations, and our incorporated name is still Horse Power Sanctuaries. However, we call ourselves Redwings Horse Sanctuary, and we will never forget the support Redwings UK gave us.
